At Highbury, you can ask as many questions as you like! Here are some commonly asked questions from prospective parents.

Is there aftercare at Highbury?
Yes. We offer a wonderful aftercare environment where the boys from Grade R to Grade 3 are supervised by qualified caregivers. Aftercare is available either on a permanent or casual basis and is charged hourly. Aftercare is available from Monday to Friday, 12:30 until 17:30 and lunch is provided.

Is there a bus service?
Yes. Highbury offers a morning bus service that transports boys from Westville, Cowies Hill and Kloof.

Can my son join at any time during the year?
Yes. We have boys joining throughout the year due to relocation or other circumstances. Our experienced teachers will ensure that your son settles smoothly into Highbury, regardless of when he joins us. A private assessment will be arranged for your son to speed up the joining process.

What are your class sizes?
One of the advantages of Highbury is that we are able to offer small class sizes.
Our largest class size in Foundation Phase is 22 boys and our largest class size in Senior Primary is 24 boys. Our Learning Support classes have a maximum of 12 boys and our Grade R classes have a maximum of 22 boys per class with each class benefiting from a dedicated teacher, teaching intern and also a teacher assistant.

Does Highbury have a preschool?
Yes. Highbury’s co-educational preschool, Weavers’ Nest is situated on the Highbury estate and offers a Reggio-inspired education for children in Grade 0000 – 00 (age 2 to 5).

How much is the application fee?
There is a non-refundable fee to be paid at the time of application. Please review our fees for this year’s pricing.

Does our family have to be Christian in order for our son to join Highbury?
No. Although Highbury is a Christian school, we welcome boys from all religions. However, every Highbury boy is expected to attend our Christian Chapel services and Scripture lessons.

Is there a uniform shop on the Highbury estate?
Yes. The uniform shop supplies all Highbury school and sports uniforms as well as supporter apparel. You can contact Mrs Brenda Moon on 031 765 9811 or uniformshop@hps.co.za.

Is there a coffee shop at Highbury?
Yes. We have a wonderful coffee shop called the Cap ‘n Chino which offers delicious meals and drinks as well as frozen meals to take home. The Cap ‘n Chino is open Monday to Friday from 07h00 – 16h00 and some Saturdays during sporting events. You can also grab a cup of coffee on your way into school in the morning from our coffee tuk-tuk which is parked in one of our parking lots.

Will my son need to bring lunch to school?
From Grade R to Grade 2, boys bring their own morning lunch to school which is eaten around 10h00. From Grade 3 to Grade 7, boys will eat a healthy cooked lunch in the dining hall and will have sandwiches on offer at snack time. Lunch is included in the school fees. Boys with food allergies and other specific dietary requirements are catered for. We recognise that eating well is important for our boys to be able to function at their best during each day and for their general wellbeing. Our dining hall serves a good range of appetising and nutritious food – something for all tastes and requirements.

Is there a sanatorium on site?
Yes. Highbury has a full time, caring and compassionate school nurse available for boys who are ill, injured, or need medication during the school day.
